5 Ways To Stay Healthy This Summer

It’s summertime! For pastors, this can mean low attendance, discouraging giving buckets, and the desire to get away on a vacation. But what it can also mean if you’re intentional is taking advantage of building healthy habits that will not only help your body but also your ministry health moving forward. Jot down these five ways to stay healthy this summer!

Embrace Outdoor Activities:

Summer offers a wealth of opportunities to engage in outdoor activities that promote physical health. Take advantage of the warmer weather and longer days by incorporating outdoor exercises into your routine. Go for a refreshing morning walk or jog, try biking on scenic trails, or explore hiking paths in your local area. Not only will these activities improve your fitness, but they will also provide a mental and emotional boost.

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate:

Proper hydration is crucial, especially during the summer months when temperatures rise. Ministry leaders often find themselves constantly on the go, making it easy to forget to drink enough water. Make a conscious effort to carry a water bottle with you at all times, and set reminders to drink throughout the day. Staying hydrated supports your overall health, aids digestion, regulates body temperature, and boosts energy levels.

Prioritize Rest and Sabbath:

Did you know implementing Sabbath can also be healthy for your physical body? Create boundaries around your work hours, and intentionally carve out time for rest. Engage in activities that rejuvenate you, whether it’s reading, spending time with loved ones, pursuing hobbies, or simply enjoying moments of solitude with the Lord. Prioritizing rest will enable you to be more present and effective in your ministry.

Make Nutritious Summer Choices:

Summer is synonymous with barbecues, picnics, and gatherings filled with tempting but often unhealthy food options. As a ministry leader, being mindful of your nutrition choices is vital. Embrace the abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables that are in season during the summer. Incorporate colorful salads, grilled lean proteins, and wholesome snacks into your diet. Opt for healthier alternatives like fruit-infused water instead of sugary drinks and choose grilled options over fried foods. By making mindful choices, you can enjoy the flavors of summer while nourishing your body.

Connect with Community:

Health is not just about physical well-being but also includes mental and emotional wellness. As a ministry leader, seek opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals who can support and encourage you on your health journey. Join a fitness class, start a walking group, or engage in activities that promote community and camaraderie. Surrounding yourself with individuals who share your commitment to health will foster accountability and provide a network of support. You might also find it helpful to speak with a counselor through Full Strength Network.

Remember that your physical health is a vital component of your overall well-being. This summer, make a conscious effort to prioritize your health through outdoor activities, proper hydration, rest, mindful nutrition, and relational engagement. By taking care of yourself, you will enhance your capacity to serve others. Let this summer be a season of renewal and growth for your body, mind, and spirit.
