There’s a new movie releasing soon called Yesterday. The premise is a world where the Beatles never existed.
You know the Beatles, right?
- The British rock band that dominated the 1960s.
- They’re considered the most influential music group in history.
- Though they broke up in 1970, they’re still the best-selling band in the world.
Can you imagine a world where they never existed?
What if Pastors Never Existed?
It got me thinking about the vital role of pastors in our society.
If pastors didn’t exist, we’d have no moral compass. There would be no one to challenge the conscience of the world, no one to give heart and soul to social movements, no one to draw us back to the light and love of God.
If pastors didn’t exist, there would be no one leading, guiding, and discipling our churches. We’d be sheep without a shepherd, lost and gone astray.
If pastors didn’t exist, we’d have no one continually praying for us. Nobody to visit us in the hospital with a spiritual perspective in our time of deepest need. We’d be missing the officiant of our marriages and the soothing peacemaker at our funerals. When tragedy strikes and we look for that voice of comfort and hope, we’d have nothing.
A world without pastors is a world I don’t want to be a part of.
What if You Never Existed?
What’s more, have you ever stopped to think about what the world would be like without you?
Here’s the thing: God has uniquely equipped you and placed you right where he wants you. It might be in the stressful leadership chair of a megachurch. Or perhaps you’re in a humble rural church dealing with an entirely different set of problems. Maybe you’re in a diverse inner-city church where your biggest struggle is helping others find their value and worth.
The point is, wherever God has placed you—that place is better off because you’re there.
You might not feel like the lighthouse in a foggy bay, but you are. So don’t hide your light. Don’t give up on your calling. Shine the way God intended.
God Has a Role for You
One of the things I love about this site, ExPastors.com, is the variety of people who read the articles. We have current pastors who are completely content. We have pastors who are considering giving up. We have pastors who’ve been forced out. Associate pastors, discouraged pastors, elder board members, and more.
I want to say to you—no matter who you are, what station of life you’re in, whether you’re currently “in the game,” or whether you feel like you’ve been sidelined—God has a role for you in someone’s life.
Based on the trailer for the Beatles movie, it appears the shtick is only one person knows about the band. No one else has ever heard of the Beatles or has a clue. That one guy’s mind is blown that nobody has ever heard of them. He knows all their songs and goes on to sing them and become a celebrity, all because the impact their music had on him.
I imagine there is at least one person in your life who, if nobody else knew of your existence, would still have been deeply impacted by knowing you.
So be encouraged: Know that your work and calling matter. God has placed you where you are for such a time as this.
